DIY Quilted Catnip Toys

A quick and fun project for your cats (or a gift for people with cats.)

I made these as a little addition to a housewarming present for a couple with cats.

To make two:

First draw out your fish template (or whatever shape you fancy.)
Make it bigger than you think to cover for seam allowances.

Mine was 19cm long and 7.5 deep on the belly.

Cut 4 out of cotton fabric & 4 out of batting/wadding.

Pair wadding and cotton fabric together and quilt lines over to bind together.

When you have done this for all 4, pair them up right sides together and sew up leaving about 4cm as a gap. Trim down excess seam and turn correct way round.

Full with Catnip. If you are in the UK you can get this from Pets at Home.

Sew up the hole. You can hand or machine stitch this (as it’s quilted machine stitching it up won’t stand out so much) just make sure it’s strong.

Chuck it to the cats and watch them having fun.

I also made a couple for my guys – 2/3 loved them. 3rd cat didn’t know what the fuss was all about. Can’t please all the cats all the time!

  1. Isn’t it funny how most cats go mad for catnip and then there are the odd few who don’t care a jot? Funny (cute) beasts that they are… 😉
Thanks for sharing at #Pintorials – great gift for a kitty/kitty owner!
